I was a bit cranky last week, waiting for various things to happen with the website transition. God it's good to be back. Didn't Gary Glitter sing a song like that? dogrun

OK, all the YouTube videos are working again. Just use the YT link, and then encase in tags [ youtube] at the start, [/ youtube] at the end. Cool. Thumbs Up

About Us
Last updated: 1 March, 2017

Welcome to GLORYDAZEMUSIC.com (or GDM to the rest of us), the site for all you need to know about true classic rock and AOR. If you consider yourself to be a trainspotter of melodic hard rock from yesteryear, then you will find a home here. If new, please register (by sending an email, refer to the last line of this post). You will be able to sign in once you get confirmation from the Site Admin. This is done as a security precaution, as there are many devious webbots trying to compromise the site by falsifying login procedures.

This site is optimized as a minimum - to a 1366x768 display ratio, but you really can go higher, up to 1920x1080, though the wider the screen dimension, will also widen the center panel. We have a left panel and centre panel only.

A little bit about this site. We've been going consistently now since May 1999. We were originally called HEART of the ROCK, and had a dinky little website hosted by xoom.com back in those early days. There were a bundle of informative sites back in those early days. Some of you may remember AOR Basement, AORland, Mood Swings, On The Rocks, and a few others. Sadly, many of those sites fell by the wayside, usually the weekly grind of writing and uploading content getting the better of many an aspiring online rock journalist.

As technology got better, we shifted with the times and experimented with different medium in which to get our articles across. It wasn't until about 2003 that we moved into a front-end Portal/back-end Database structure, leaving behind four years worth of pain and heartache working with static HTML. God, what a grind that was! During this transition, we opted for a name change, moving to the domain name of GLORY-DAZE. We couldn't grab the domain glorydaze.com, so we opted for the next best thing: glory-daze.com. We fluffed around with some web portal software like PHP-Nuke, and Dragonfly, but there were serious security concerns with those systems, and after exploring around and getting some recommendations, we finally settled on PHP-Fusion.

GLORY-DAZE suffered somewhat at the hands of a failing data center in Houston Texas, so much so that our site was being compromised. We made the decision to move to a new data center, upgrade to the very latest version of PHP-Fusion v7.0 (which required a huge data transition/upgrade), and used the opportunity to change the domain again (talk about keeping it fresh) to glorydazemusic.com. A bit of a mouthful I know, but as a branding exercise, it works.

There is still room to modify parts of the site, but because v7.0 has invalidated a lot of the older code we used, we have to wait until coders/developers go through the upgrade path and bring their applications (known as infusions in PHP Fusion terminology) up to speed. As at end of 2016, we hope to be trialling v9.0 of PHP-Fusion very soon.

There are some neat features on this site, which we'll take some time explaining.

Firstly, everything on the site is contained in a mySQL database, which is backed up regularly. The site has web security in the backend as well as the frontend. We use .htmaccess files to lock down bandwidth (plus image theft), plus we have an invisible security module running 24x7 that handles spam, flooding and hacks.

Navigation - go to the menu/strip at the top of the website page.

Search - we use an internally driven Google based Search Engine. You can access this from the top menu: GDM Google Search. We also have old legacy Search system too, which is still available for use.

Our Forums - we've made some of these member only viewable forums. The member only stuff contains a wealth of goodies such as downloads, fileshare links etc that we don't expose to the public (for security reasons). If you aren't a member, register, and hook on. For normal unsecured stuff, guests/public have access to these.

Blog - GDM has an external blog using WordPress technology. Go to: http://blog.glorydazemusic.com/wordpress, but it too is currently being evaluated.

Our RSS News Feeds - This facility is currently being re-evaluated.

Other features include: Avatar usage, Shoutbox, Commenting, Rating and Polls.
