Rainbow - 1976 Rising
I vividly recall as a teenager rummaging through the racks of my local record shop and my eyes immediately being drawn to the stunning (and dare I say it iconic) artwork of Rainbow's 'Rising' LP. To me at least the cover perfectly defined the musical contents - something majestic, mystical and truly powerful.

Rainbow - 1978 Long Live Rock N Roll
I believe this is the band's finest album. Yes, 'Rising' had it's moments and is a classic, but on 'Long Live Rock N Roll', Rainbow put it all on the table as if in a last ditch attempt to get some type of commercial credibility.

Rainbow - 1979 Down To Earth
With this excellent lineup Rainbow began their foray into more accessible hard rock, ditching the fantasy lyrics and epic metal style that characterised the Dio years.

Rainbow - 1982 Straight Between The Eyes
While they were regular top five contenders in Britain since the Dio days, it was the USA that Blackmore was desperate to crack. 81's 'Difficult To Cure' had hit no.50 on the strength of major single 'I Surrender', but it was Turner's classy vocals and a smoother AOR sound which paid dividends.

Rainbow - 1983 Bent Out Of Shape
The final proper Rainbow album, as I'm not too sure anyone counts 1995's forgotten 'Stranger In Us All', and one which saw the band at the height of their melodic powers in a last ditch effort to crack the elusive US market.

Rainbow (Ritchie Blackmore's) - 2017 Live in Birmingham 2016
It's great to have Blackmore returning to hard rock at this late stage of his career. This disappoints me, as classic Rainbow and Purple are bands I love more than almost any other. One for the hardcore Blackmore enthusiast only.
