correct, Retrospect is selling off the last of FX's original pressings of their 2 releases (IN THE SKY and IN MOTION) and shortly be re-issuing them on our own label (remastered with possible bonus tracks). I agree George, this band is great which is why i just had to track them down. I will try and get you a copy of their full length album "IN MOTION" from 1987. Lake/ Moore did a UK tour together around this time as well. Voyager opened the shows and Paul French told me it was a terrific pairing and a lot of fun. At the moment, we have hit a technical hitch. By having so many entries in the DB, it rendered much of the remainder of the website inoperable this morning, so I have cleaned out all the table records so that the DB can be returned to normal resumption. OK, a few updates here..
1) As mentioned in the Shoutbox, this facility is now called AOR Directory, and is visible to all Members of this site.
2) I already had an extensive DB of material away from GD. I have shaped the data into the required fields/formats, and imported it into the AOR Directory table, now there are close to 7000 entries.
3) Many of these 7000 entries will need to be edited, with historical information to be added.
4) At this stage, I am considering whether to allow Members to edit entries, as there are security aspects to consider. In the meantime, as Editor I will probably update the AOR Directory within my external MS Access database environment, and make regular imports to the AOR Directory table, say weekly or fortnightly.
5) If members want to contribute making entries, then drop me a PM, giving the artist/act name (if it isn't in the AOR Directory already), and a couple of sentences or paragraphs as a description. Personnel and any album releases (with year and record label) would be appreciated too.
Any queries, drop me a PM. No link. |

Wonderful to see this here. Mott The Hoople are one of my favorite bands. I was turned on to them by a friend in High School in 1975 who used to play all their stuff during art class. He was a huge fan and even saw Mott with Queen at the Uris Theater in NY and taped/ booted both shows although most of the Queen show was lost due to his taping over for the sake of Mott. I remember he said Queen were good, but of course Mott were better lol.

There are no lame rock&roll songs(like Right Away, You Better Ask, 23 Years or Rock n Roll Feeling), JY's voice doesn't get on the nerves, more DDY singing is probably why, harmonies are great and the production is the icing on the cake. Judging by the review and comments, I must be one of the few that thinks this one is actually even better than the debut. I don't mind that it may sound a bit "formulatic"; the songs are catchy and not "samey", and the production is great. I don't think it is quite up there with the new Treat, but I expect this to be a strong contender for #2 for the year and definitely in my top 5 (if not, then this will have been an extraordinary year).
I hope the band is able to continue without Leckremo. I wouldn't put him in the absolute top echelon of vocalists, but he is definitely very good, and I doubt it would be easy to find someone who can step in and be at least as good. I've heard a fair amount of this type of music where the one thing holding it back was the vocals. I sure hope that doesn't end up being the case with H.E.A.T. View Article Comment

Say it isn't so! But I understand - there are a lot of good albums from years past that have yet to be reviewed. Still, this is where I hear about most of the new stuff out there.
I would like someone to get a list of other sites that review the newer stuff and that have the same sensibilities as we do here. I can Google an album and find several reviews, but most of them are nowhere near the quality of the ones here. I'll do my own research too, but I figure some of you know other places to keep abreast of the current scene. No link. |
