Fast Machine - 2002 2 Track Promo

FAST MACHINE - 2 TRACK PROMO CD (2002, GTB ENTERTAINMENT)
Gary Brandon - vocals, guitars, synthesizers
Gus Moratinos - electronic drums

Background
Just a brief review on this promo CD received from GTB Entertainment. Fast Machine features two stalwarts of classic rock/AOR heroes from yesteryear White Sister. Keyboardist Gary (as you knew him then.. Garri) Brandon, plus one-time WS drummer Gus Moratinos (ex ZZYZX). Since the White Sister gig, Gary has kept himself busy in music, doing his own stuff while working with others (John Parr being one of those). Fast Machine as an entity came together in 2000, though the addition of Moratinos, and more recently last October 2002, Chris Cilibrasi on bass, has rounded out the band.

The Songs
On to the two tracks on offer.. 'Suddenly' and 'Do Or Die'. Those looking for an aural bombastic fix a la the aforementioned White Sister can wait another day. Instead the layered vocals and acoustic/electric flow is a deadringer for Louisana's favourites Zebra, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was Randy Jackson singing on 'Suddenly', especially the harmonies on the chorus. Very nice indeed. Despite the drastic nature of the songtitle, 'Do Or Die' is hardly good cause to have your life threatened. In fact, it's sort of laid back, again the acoustic/electric mixture plying a road that many modern artists from Nelson through to Z-Plan would be playing. In all honesty, 'Do Or Die' probably needs to come across stronger, though the vocal harmonies again, are a strongpoint.

In Summary
The two tracks are a taster of what is to come on their forthcoming debut album 'Learning 2 Fly'. I'm pretty certain we'll be hearing a bit more from Fast Machine over the coming months. Now, if I can only persuade Gary to fire up those old Roland synths in the vein of White Sister's 'Promises' and 'Can't Say No' ?? Woah!!
