Background
Despite having to deal with the walking time-bomb that is Axl Rose, I'm sure Gilby Clarke enjoyed his time as guitarist in Guns 'n' Roses. Of course, the legacy of that experience is that Clarke will always be known as 'that guy who used to be in Guns 'n' Roses', notwithstanding popsters Candy. Clarke has certainly been more active than his former GnR bandmates, with 'Swag' being the fourth album he has issued since leaving them, and it's a no-nonsense, blues-driven rock record that tips a wink to the classic rock of the 1970s and fuses it with all the swagger of a guy who once shared the stage with Slash.

The Songs
The chugging hard rock of 'Alien' kicks things off, and the material wanders from the straight ahead rock of 'Crocodile Tears' and 'I'm Nobody' to 80's throwback material like 'Under The Gun' and the harmonica-laced blues of 'Broken Down Car' and 'Warm Country Sun'. David Bowie's 'Diamond Dogs' is covered passably for the final track.

In Summary
Although the album is far from spectacular, Clarke is at least making music, which is more than can be said for a certain Mr. Rose.
