Background
The names will be familiar to GDM readers. David Glen Eisley, once with 80's hair legends Giuffria, so too guitarist Craig Goldy, who also had a stint with Dio. It seems unlikely that thirty years later that the duo could return as a new combination. Something doesn't seem right if this pair can return to the current day on the back of Frontiers support. Is the melodic rock industry this bad that labels have to scrape the history books of the 80's to find new inspiration? I'm afraid it is, however, since Eisley Goldy have landed, there's no point in bemoaning this fact.

The Songs
I didn't hold much faith in the merits of this album when it was first announced. Listening to the first video track on YouTube didn't help matters either. I was never a fan of Eisley's vocals, but Goldy's guitar playing I did enjoy, so for me that was one upside. Now that I've given the album a full listen, I've grudgingly changed my tune. Surprisingly, this is less 'rough around the edges' than first thought. Both guys thrown a wealth of smoothness into the songs, as a consequence keyboards are prevalent though not overly saturated, which is a good thing. Guitar fills are short and tasty without being widdly diddly. The first trio of songs are very good, so as a capturing strategy that was kinda clever. 'Lies I Can Live With' was a highlight for me. The initial trickling of synths on the opener 'The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter' was a pleasant surprise, so too the drum rumbling at the start. This could be the ghost of Giuffria. Did Messrs Eisley and Goldy learn a thing or two from their former colleague Gregg Giuffria, particularly playing keyboards? 'Wings Of A Hurricane' picks up the pace noticeably. Pumping bass lines and an aggressive streak throughout. Balancing out the ledger, a couple of songs didn't quite work for me. 'Life, If Only A Memory' stops the momentum of the album in its tracks, taking far too long to warm up, and not convincing me when we finally got there. 'Soul Of Madness' at six minutes was far too long, and wasn't as cohesive as previous songs. The album's ballad 'Believe In One Another' thankfully was at the tail, and was just too laborious and cumbersome.

In Summary
I guess appearances can be deceptive, and so it is proved on the majority of this album. I came away with tail between legs, however the album isn't without its flaws, but the upside is better than the downside. Worth a listen, but one word of advice to Frontiers, think ahead rather than backward.

There are some good songs on this cd. I think DGE fans like myself are lucky to get this cd. I'm glad you gave this a review here at GDM!
