There is a three-part article coming up for E.L.O (Eldorado, A New World Record and Out Of The Blue). Look out for it soon.

Stoke City condemned 2 relegation. Who is the new manager? Paul Lambert.

Agreed Reyno about Clyde Best, further back is the story of Walter Tull which is quite heartbreaking, links to Northampton and lived in Rushden.

Big loss is Cyrille, only short time at Wolves, but I was at the Peterborough game where he scored the last minute winner, Cyrille and Laurie C, what a team.

I think many people forget guys like West Ham's Clyde Best whenever the subject of the impact of black footballers in the English game crops up. He was just as good as the West Brom trio years b4

Cyrille was part of the ground breaking so called 'three degrees' who did so much to break down racial barriers in Football back in the late 70's.R.I.P

R.I.P the great Cyrille Regis. West Brom legend, plus Coventry, Wolves and Villa too. Aged 59.

I take my hat off to a label like Retrospect Records who did a lot of work in promoting rare AOR and heavy metal from the 80's. One of those rarities was Nebraska based quartet The Jacks, who released this one-off LP back in 1985. They sounded like the consummate professional working band, working the mid-west regions of the USA, and providing support to the big-names that rolled through towns like Omaha. Having two lead singers who played both guitars and keyboards was a luxury, while the four-part backing vocals was the cherry on top.

The Songs
Check out those parping keyboards on the opener 'Love's In Danger'. Aah yes, this is how it used to sound back then. Along with crashing cymbals and fat vocal harmonies, it doesn't get better for an indie band from 1985. 'Give It A Shot' goes all high energy and high tempo, a toe-tapper for sure. 'Que Linda, What A Beauty' is the album's power-ballad, and is also the best track. Magnificent stuff. 'Maria' is a bit all-over-the-place musically, the rhythm section sounds like it is tripping over itself. Meanwhile, 'Tommy Is A Romeo' sounds like they've extended power-pop well into the mid 80's, even though we know it dropped long before then. 'I Can't Wait' takes on a persona similar to Atlanta pop-rockers The Producers. The last two tracks are radio edits of 'Que Linda' and 'Love's In Danger'.

In Summary
It's unclear what happened to The Jacks after this release, however I am aware that the band participated in a reunion event around 2011/2012. Being a part of the Omaha music scene back in the 80's means Life Membership into the Nebraska Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. As mentioned, Retrospect Records reissued this in 2009, complete with new artwork, but I can safely say this issue is now long out of print. Good luck on your Ebay search.

The cover used here was the original one from 1985. Retrospect have their own cover, updated in 2009.
