Background
Swedish band Bad Radiator have been a constant feature at GDM since their 2011 debut crossed my desk. After that, I made it a mission to dig deeper into their music, and ended up buying their three CD's back in 2015, which was a good investment. During October 2017, the lads returned with their fourth offering, simply titled 'IV', ensuring there would be no ambiguity as to the name. Style wise, it's more of the well crafted melodic rock which generally, most Swedish rock bands are known for, and as usual, there is a drop of the usual sub-genres of rock we all love here at GDM, though as Bad Radiator have proved over the course of their three (now four) releases to date, they do offer some interesting twists and turns.

The Songs
'Finish What You Started' grooves into contention, and is also the album's video track. The regimented rhythm section is offset by a nifty guitar solo too. The pace is kept to a moderate cruising speed, as we hear on second track 'You Drive Me Crazy', but the boys rock it up more on 'I Could Have Been Happy', but so far (three tracks in), we're heading in the right direction. 'Heartbeat' isn't quite the body-pumping affair associated with the song-title, instead keeping things to a bluesy classic rock style. 'Waiting For You' on the other hand, is a bouncy number, maybe part-pop part-rock. Danish band Michael Learns To Rock springs to mind when listening to this. 'Tell Me' keeps the mid-tempo pacing happening, but as we progress to the back-end of the album, Bad Radiator pick it up with 'Learn To Let It Go', the tasteful 'Lonely' and perhaps my pick of the album 'Gonna Be The One'. The closer 'Save Me' is pretty decent too, reminding me of an old Street Talk song, though for the life of me I can't recall which one.

In Summary
As you can probably gauge through reading this article, I found the predominately mid-tempo pace to overshadow the outcome. It may have been the same on the other albums too, but I noticed it more on this album. There's nothing wrong with the song structure or arrangements as such, just the tempo some of the songs were set at. Really only three tracks were paced slightly ahead ('I Could Have Been Happy', 'Lonely' and 'Gonna Be The One'), but that shouldn't detract on what is another solid offering from these popular Swedes.

Highlights: Finish What You Started, I Could Have Been Happy, Learn To Let It Go, Lonely, Gonna Be The One, Save Me.
