Background
Dragging this one out of the closet proved to be an interesting exercise. This trio delivered a one-off concept album, which delivered live, must have been a visual feast. The concept of pirates, brigands, Port Royal, scabbards, blunderbusses and sailing the high seas must have been the inspiration for this lyrical and musical free-for-all. If you can imagine other theatrical bands from the era including Sorcery, Beowulf and Warlord, then Buccaneer are right up there. Buccaneer were based out of Indianapolis, and their origins stem from the band Primevil.

The Songs
This album combines hard rock theatrics and psychedelic rock to good effect. It's a bit uneven and wobbly, and will definitely appeal to old-timers rather than Millennials with bad facial growth. Surging past the most narrative 'Introduction', the band tear it up on 'Ride The Tide'. Wow, that was damn good, if they had kept it up across all the album then we might be talking about an obscure classic. 'Follow Me' is a bluesy excursion, next up is the acoustic ballad 'Fantasies' which sounds like it has a female vocal accompaniment. 'Desolation' after a sleepy acoustic slumber comes alive at the 1.30 min mark, with some aggressive rock, complete with poppin' bass lines. This same approach is taken on 'Spanish Gold', with more bass poppin' , and searing guitar work which is obviously pushed through a myriad of guitar pedals. 'The Invincible' is more hard rock, but toward the end , you can hear what sounds like fighting and swashbuckling going on. 'Sailor, Lord And Thief' keeps up the assault, with Rush like taurus pedals and a prog like delivery.

In Summary
This was issued as a bootlegged CD in 1993 by a label called Limited Records. It contained an extra four tracks over and above the original 8 on the vinyl. Apparently the quality of the CD is really bad, and is obvious that it has been dubbed from a vinyl source. The original vinyl on Blunderbuss Records was a gate-fold issue, so if you do see one lying around in some bargain bin basement, pick it up!
