There's always enough space in the GDM review schedule to make room for a guy like Michael Stanley. Even with the onset of senior citizenry, Stanley is still out there making music like he did forty years ago, and there seems to be no signs of stopping. Well actually there is, but I'll get to that in a moment. GDM has covered a handful of his solo albums, but not enough in my opinion, so it might be an exercise to backfill as much as we can. If you are a fan of the man and his music, you will know that in recent times, Michael has been beset with illness. He had a heart attack some years ago, and just a few weeks ago, had coronary surgery which prevented him from playing a few select Christmas gigs in his hometown of Cleveland.

The Songs
Alongside his live band The Resonators, who are all familiar names from the era of the Michael Stanley Band and the Ghost Poets, this assembled team are a hand-fits-glove association for their captain, who certainly knows how to pen a tune or two. The easy on the ear 'Everything’s Gonna Be Alright' and the relentless melody of 'Better Not To Know' make for a lovely opening pairing. The album is reminiscent of Californians Venice, but without the lush harmony vocals. The tempo and the classic rock keyboard from Bob Pelander lands this in the same zone as bands like Crowded House and other crossover acts. You hear this on songs such as 'The Confidence Of Kings' and the sultry 'If You Wanna Make God Laugh'. The next track 'Little Victories' pushes the tempo up, lets hope the heart rate is kept intact! Toward the back-end of the album, the songs do tend to segue into one another like a seamless stitch, particularly the samey drum beat, which makes the songs indistinguishable from the other.

In Summary
Still, there's a heap of songs to be found on 'Stolen Time', and enough to appeal to long time fans. It's old time classic rock with a pinch. Celebrate the festive season with one of Cleveland's musical royalty.
