Background
This duo make for a slightly unusual pairing. One is a classic rock singer, the other is a guitar slinger of the highest calibre, but their combination is inspiring. Jennifer Batten has made a name for herself as a guitarist extraordinaire, playing alongside some of the biggest names in the biz, including Jeff Beck the late Michael Jackson. Marc Scherer introduced himself two years ago, buddying up with Jim Peterik for their joint album 'Risk Everything'.

The Songs
The music on 'Battlezone' still retains a classic rock essence, that touches on the likes of genre faves Mecca and Pride Of Lions but without a direct intrusion into either of the musical brands of those two. As can be expected, there is loads of OTT guitar parts from six-string wizard Batten, while Scherer has certainly confirmed his arrival into the melodic rock scene. Battlezone' is not too far adrift of that 2015 'Peterik Scherer' album (and that's not surprising considering Jim PEterik's overall involvement here); so for those of you familar wih that effort will be pleased to hear that. Jennifer Batten does add a new dynamic to this new set though, as you can hear by her input throughout. Most of these songs are on the upside, and there's value to be found right across the CD. This is the kind of album that demands your attention simply because Marc's voice so good, and Jennifer's guitar work.. well that speaks for itself.

In Summary
After a slow start to 2017, the MelodicRock label has been very busy, releasing a slew of solid performing albums. We hope to get around to reviewing most of them asap, including some multi-CD releases from earlier in the year from Arti-Tisi and Shotgun Symphony. And yes, we are late getting to this album because of our well documented technology issues in the past few weeks. In the meantime, grab a gin and tonic and sit back and appreciate the musical talent on display here.
