Sometimes it takes a bit of courage to kick-start the career of an artist/band, and so it proved in 1983, for Seattle's Rail. That courage was taken by Rail's manager Maria Cooper, who sent in a video of the band's song 'Hello' (taken from 1980's 'Arrival' LP) to MTV and their contest 'Basement Tapes'. Rail eventually won the grand prize, which was a recording contract with EMI America. And thus the creation of this four-track Mini LP. The cover art is intriguing too; sort of like a variation on Escher's Staircase.

The Songs
'1-2-3-4 Rock 'n' Roll' and 'Fantasy' both had videos created for them, these can be seen below. Pretty good huh? Here, you can get an overview of what the band were all about. 'You've Got To Give' is a decent hard rockin' tune, while 'Hard Girl To Love' interestingly, was written by Kurt Howell, a name mentioned previously here at GDM.

In Summary
>Personally, I think this is the best sounding material that Rail put together. Always helps to have a decent producer onboard, and Pat Glasser (Night Ranger) does the honours here. This would be the only major label release that Rail would deliver, a shame really, because based on this they sounded like a million bucks.

Although the late Pat Glasser did a great job on the Night Ranger albums Gregg Giuffria was pretty damning in his assessment of the man's involvement on 'Silk And Steel' and his involvement on the third Franke And The Knockouts album bemused that group too.
