Back in 2004, Alun wrote an article on this independent Canadian hard rock band from Vancouver. You can read it here (link underneath), though the end result wasn't the most positive. In the current day, Uncle Sid are still in operation, with only drummer Dale Salive the common denominator between past and present. Uncle Sid's music sits in an era a few decades back. The new vocalist Emerald Green has listened to Geddy Lee/Rush and Russ Dwarf it would seem, and you can take that any which way you like. Musically, it does sound like a workingman's Killer Dwarfs. It's competently played all round, but lacking in hooks and something to which you can hold onto. 'Horns Up!' (a tribute to the late great Ronnie James Dio), 'Empire' and 'The Road' are all very reasonable tracks, so too the uptempo 'Evilution' which skips along at a merry pace. Not the worst album to be heard this year, so kudos to these Canucks for giving it another shot.
