The Murder Of My Sweet is a Swedish project which had its roots from the band Mind's Eye. That band featured singer Andreas Novak and drummer Daniel Flores. Eventually, Flores would go on to a production career while Novak ended up as the voice behind House Of Shakira. As part of Flores' port-folio, TMOMS was a interesting side-project which included singer Angelica Rylin, and their approach to melodic rock was a little out of the ordinary. Mostly theme based, theirs is a style based on cinematic and gothic metal, with movie references, intrigue, cloak and dagger, and variations in arrangement. Sort of like dark TV series like Gotham, meeting Agent Carter in some back-handed alley. The good thing with Flores behind the desk is that the production is slick and bombastic. Not as AOR sounding as some of his other work (Find Me, Cry Of Dawn for instance), instead veering down the symphonic path, mostly due to the use of strings, orchestral parts and soundtrack like expression.

I have all the TMOMS albums, but haven't really sat down and given them a thorough listen. I probably should, judging by this set. By all accounts, 'Echoes Of The Aftermath' is the most melodic of all the TMOMS releases, so I've probably landed on the best option in this musical chessboard. From the booming opener 'Sleeping Giant' through to the poignant ballad 'Inside Outside', this album will take you on a roller-coaster ride. Call it what you will.. cinematic, gothic, symphonic metal, it's all here. Angelica's voice is very ethereal in places, and when placed in the mix, it's very well suited. From what some people have told me, 'Echoes Of The Aftermath' is a step back in terms of power. If that is the case, then I best get a move along and investigate the back-catalogue.
