Trashcan Darlings - 2001 Holiday In My Head [EP]

Strange? Gentle - vocals
C.D. Doll - lead guitars
Skinny - drums
Danny Dee - bass
Frankie N - rhythm guitar

Self styled flag wavers for Glamour Punk, Norway's Trashcan Darlings are out to shock and entertain, and they certainly do that on their 'Holiday In My Head' EP. Looking like a cross between the outrageous lipstick and leather image of Pretty Boy Floyd and the freakish look of Marilyn Manson, the band only seem to have become more bizarre since last years' exquisitely named 'Gore Gore Boys and Splatter Pussies' EP. That release was filled with some infectious choruses courtesy of the pen of guitarist C.D. Doll, such as the raucous 'I Just Wanna Die (On A Chemical High), and the superbly melodic 'She's A Fuck Around'. This time around, the band still pay homage to the likes of Hanoi Rocks and the New York Dolls, but C.D. Doll has shared the songwriting duties more and the result is a release that is just as chaotic, but not as immediately accessible as its predecessor.

The Songs
Opener and title track 'Holiday In My Head' is a good example of the Trashcan Darlings sound, with some low slung guitars and throbbing, punky bass lines to create an infectious song that seems both derivative and strangely original. 'Satanic Rock' only lasts 27 seconds, but in that short space of time leaves a severe cranial imprint and with a speeded up, crude punk sound, would annoy even Lucifer himself. The pace keeps up on the fast and furious 'Running Out Of Time', which itself lasts for all of two minutes and the EP closes with Trashcan Darling's faithful interpretation of the Hollywood Brats 'Tumble With Me'.

In Summary
Trashcan Darlings are a riotous alternative to the pop of mainstream Norwegian musicians like Lene Marlin, but obviously they are not going to be everyone's cup of tea in terms of image or musical style. However, on the evidence of 'Holiday In My Head EP' (which along with its predecessor can be purchased by emailing the guys), the band's full length album should please fans in the glam punk scene when it is released later this year.
