Background
A while back, the pairing of English vocalist Kerry Ellis and Queen guitarist Brian May and their 2010 album 'Anthems' was reviewed here. Ellis has a background in the West End/Theatre world, and their music proved to be an interesting amalgam. The pair return in 2017 with 'Golden Days', which takes well known songs from the past to be reinvented. Amazing Grace', 'Born Free' (from the movie, Elsa the Lion), 'I Who Have Nothing' (made popular by Shirley Bassey), the ABBA co-write 'Story Of A Heart' and 'Can't Help Falling In Love' (Elvis Presley).. all get a reworking, while the first single and video 'One Voice' is a very sing-a-long effort, and very likeable. There's not much of the Brian May hard rock flurry here, instead these are re-interpreted covers for the most part. It should appeal to the oldies here, less so for those looking for a hard rock kick.

This album is a huge disappointment. Brian is one of the world's top guitarists and Kerry Ellis a wonderful singer but this album blows big time. I've really tried to like this but to no avail. I am probably one of the oldies you talk about here George...LOL, But I much prefer it when Brian rocks.
