Yep in Argent, especially as Rod Argent and Jim we’re cousins.

Didn't Rodford also play in Argent and Charlie too?

WEBLINKS: One Desire Website

This is a band that should appeal to most GDM readers. They are the Finnish AOR quartet One Desire, who previously went by the handle of OD. If you follow melodic rock on the Facebook platform, then these guys may have crossed your news feed at some stage. The band started in 2012 via drummer Ossi Sivula, who scored a coup in recruiting the well travelled Jimmy Westerlund (who spent time in Los Angeles) and former Sturm Und Drang singer André Linman to his cause. Of the band, Linman says 'Musically, the band draws influences from classic rock bands like Journey, Toto, and Def Leppard, but also lots of heavier, more modern bands. Our sound is very melodic, slightly pop-ish at times, but still based on a heavy rock sound.' That much is true when listening to this.

The Songs
'Hurt' is the band's lead-off single, and it has an air of the dramatics about it. Check out the video below. 'Apologize' could be Eclipse lite, though in saying that, the overall approach is still robust, the choruses aim up at radio appeal. The last time I heard a band singing about a 'Love Injection' was Marcello Vestry, which was nearly a decade ago. One Desire's version is certainly pop metal. 'Turn Back Time' applies some restraint at the start, but loses the shackles soon after for a boisterous melodic rocker. 'Falling Apart' was too sugary sweet a-ballad to contemplate, I much prefer when OD go for broke, as they do on 'Straight Through The Heart', though when the guitars are absent they sound decidedly thin on the ground. 'Whenever I'm Dreaming' is held together by a strong chorus, but when 'Buried Alive' is delivered, I'm thinking this is more my cup of tea. Far heavier and delivered bearing cast-iron goodies, a la Amaranthe and Brother Firetribe. The album concludes with the ballad 'This Is Where The Heartbreak Begins', a bit of a weak statement after the aural onslaught of 'Buried Alive', someone should've checked the track order beforehand.

In Summary
I'll agree with André Linman's personal assessment, melodic hard rock with a slightly pop-ish touch. Still, this is good to play around the house, which I've been doing the last few days, and it gets a pass mark from me, though I would've preferred it if they went a touch heavier. One Desire will be playing Day 1 of the Frontiers Rock Festival IV held in Trezzo (Milan), Italy, next week (29-30 March), so for those fortunate enough to see them, go along for the ride.
