It's still early days in 2017, but I can declare that 'Striker' is one of finest heavy metal albums you'll ever hear this year. My ear-drums are still getting over last year's superb effort 'Stand In The Fire', for which I gave it a 95/100 rating. Striker combine all the elements I find essential for a metal band. Firstly, their melodic quota needs to be high. Check. Strong choruses. Double check. Vocal harmonies. Triple check, and lastly, OTT guitars which are off the scale. Quadruple check.

The Songs
I won't spend too much time revering the songs on this ten track platter. It's just one slice of sonic goodness to the next. Dan Cleary can sing the pages off the phone book (you've heard that cliched phrase too often right?), while the rest of the band fire up a storm of apocalyptic proportions. 'Pass Me By' is an anthem of epic strength, huge gang-chants included. 'Shadows Of The Night's is played at near breakneck speed. Not quite Dragonforce levels, but close enough and without the X-Box Guitar Hero styled solos of said band. 'Over The Top' is well named and compares well to European contemporaries, meanwhile 'Curse Of The Dead' takes things to thrash levels but with all those aforementioned elements still in play. The album's cover song is Ozzy Osbourne's 'Desire', which most of you will remember from his 1991 album 'No More Tears'.

In Summary
At the time of writing, Striker were tearing it up over in Europe. I think they would be a fantastic band to see live, the energy must be off the charts. Without any hesitation, this album gets top marks, and will be sitting close to the top of the pile by years end. Enough said, check them out.
