WEBLINKS: FB Page Coastland Ride

We've been covering these guys since their entrance onto the scene way back in 2003. The Swedish trio haven't released a great deal of music since that time, having popped up over the years. But in 2017, I think they might have achieved their crowning glory with this latest effort 'Distance'. I'm quite impressed by what I'm hearing here, and I certainly sat up to attention listening to this. We've heard sounds like this from fellow Scandi's such as On The Rise and Heartbreak Radio, so if you're into that style of AOR, then read on.

The Songs
'Distance' gets off to a cracking start with the immense 'Winds'. We're not talking hurricane force, or even a mild zephyr, but this one has many of the appealing elements that makes for a great listen. The chorus? Check. Keyboard overload? Check. Killer solo and vocal harmonies? Double check. 'Saviour' starts off with some gruff guitar work, but settles down to something mild soon after. Coastland Ride are also known for providing a dash of West Coast, and I guess you could say 'Love Is On Your Mind' is pretty close, like Bill Champlin in a sense. 'Dead For Seven Days' cranks things noticeably, some groovy guitar chugging going on here. The mid-section of the album is exceptional. I'm loving songs like 'Eye Of The Storm', 'Nation Of Grace', 'Spotlight Sun' and the AOR-tastic 'Reasons To Try'.

In Summary
The thing I like the most about 'Distance' is that it doesn't sound like any of the typical cookie-cutter product coming out of Europe. This album has synths that sizzle, and songs that are genuinely well constructed. The vocals are right in the goldilocks zone, and the arrangements are just what I'm looking for in an album of this kind. Well, I'm smitten, what about you?
