I haven't been encouraged to review a Last Autumn's Dream in my many years of writing. Other writers have poked the stick with previous articles, but it wasn't until 2017's 'In Disguise' that I took a peek behind the curtain. The band have been around for years, and have mostly stuck with Escape Music and before that AOR Heaven. The difference with this album (and why I decided to review it) is because it is essentially a covers album. The songs performed here are all favourites of the band members, and we shouldn't be surprised that many of them will be melodic rock and AOR favourites of the GDM readership too. Having just written the article of Toque (which was a covers album of Canadian song classics), LAD have also selected a couple of Canadian tunes as well.

The Songs
If Love Should Go - this is the Streets from their 1983 debut '1st'. This version is pretty good, played in a smoother style than the original. The hand-claps on the chorus add a different flavour, while Söderström's solos are tasty. Jet Airliner - the Steve Miller Band chestnut is given a different treatment, while the Sweet and Kiss tracks ('Wig Wam Bam' and 'All The Way') are a reminder of the band's youth, even if it was some thirty years prior. The Canadian contingent of songs include Headpins 'Just One More Time', the well-known Loverboy hit 'Working For The Weekend' which sounds on the money, while Bachman Turner Overdrive's 'Hey You' is a terrific reminder of life back in 1975. A good song, which now means I am on a treasure hunt of all those old BTO albums from the early 70's. Incidentally, the Japanese bonus track of this album is the Fair Warning ballad 'Long Gone'.

In Summary
I won't muck about with summarising this. If you have a penchant for picking up cover albums that have a modicum of interesting points, then you can do worse than adding 'In Disguise' to your collection.
