Well, what can I say, this is an album right up my alley, and I would think also a few of the regulars here too. The band are Toque. I'm not sure how to pronounce it, but I'll guess and say 'talk', and not 'toke'. So who are these guys? They are a quartet of ex-pat Canadians who are plying their trade in the USA (Los Angeles and Las Vegas), and have spent the past decade or more playing with the like Slash,Kelly Clarkson plus many others. The origins of this band came during 2012, when they played a charity event back in Winnipeg Canada. According to Todd Kerns, the idea was to play covers from popular Canadian hard rock bands. It proved to be so successful that they decided to release an album along these lines.

The Songs
'Give'r' was eventually released just prior to Christmas 2016, and features thirteen tracks of very familiar Canadian classics. I won't get into the specifics of each song, but I will say that the attention to detail is incredible. This is to be expected from a set of first-class set of musicians. Listening to these is like hearing the originals all over again. For me, the highlight was the Chilliwack hit 'My Girl', including those difficult to sing those acapella parts. Saga's 'On The Loose' was a very good rendition, so too the Honeymoon Suite classic 'New Girl Now'. Mention must also be made of Streetheart's 'Action', with all those swirly synths and cool drum parts. It's like 1978 all over again!

In Summary
I'm certain this album is one they'll pull out at Canadian BBQ's and frat parties everywhere across the vast country, where everybody knows the songs and the lyrics. Canucks are like that aren't they? Grab this CD, it's only going for $10 on the Toque website. Support this band.

A great rating for a COVERS record? What happened to you - getting mellow with old age (just kidding...)?

This is a download only release unfortunately. I emailed the band and they said they have no plans to release it on cd.

OK, then the $10 cart option on their webpage is for a download only. I should've checked beforehand.

It doesn't actually tell you anywhere it's download only. However, if you add it to your shopping basket and then go through checkout, you get to the pay now button on paypal without loading any delivery details or shipping costs. I backed off when I thought it was too cheap and queried it with them to be told it's a download.

While we're on the subject on covers albums, the latest Last Autumn's Dream Cd 'In Disguise' (Escape Music, ESM 299) is a full blown covers CD, featuring more Canadian retrospectives from the likes of Headpins, Loverboy and BTO. Even an Angel track and two City Boy songs are covered, notwithstanding a Streets track.

What the heck is going on? Shock

My download link worked perfectly fine. Really nice versions. Could have done without a couple of songs, 'Roller' especially.
