Background
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Christian band The Imitators were more than just sideline spectators during the early 80's. They were one of a few new wave/pop rock bands touting the Lord's message, and achieved this across two albums before splitting up in 1986. Signed to Exile Records, the band have been compared to the Psychedelic Furs, The Cars, The Producers and A Flock Of Seagulls. This is probably down to the innovative use of keyboards from ivories-man Phil Mason, and judging from what was heard on their debut 4-track EP, we're not far off the mark.

The Songs
The spicy keyboard work comes to our attention as early as track one: 'When The Deal Goes Down'. All round this is a cool opener with many melodic guitar parts to boot. 'I Want To Walk In The Light' takes in the prevailing new wave/new romantic style of the day, however things lift for the edgy 'Paradoxical Faith', for me probably the highlight on the EP. 'Human Sacrifice' completes the set, a dreamy number which again, it's hard to ignore those early 80's new romantic flavours.

In Summary
This band reunited the following year for a full-length LP 'Once And For All', and we'll cover that one off shortly.
