Background
Yeah, I don't know too much about our Swedish friend Stefan Andersson. I have seen numerous CD's of his from the 90's, but that was never a decade to set my heart racing, so his music went by the wayside for me. From Gothenburg, the home of many a Swedish power metal band, Stefan's music is at the other end of the musical scale, playing different styles, kinda West Coast, more Midwest, with a hint of country and folk tossed in. You'll see references to these in our GDM review further down. This is his second album, Andersson first landing with the 'Emperor's Day' CD a year earlier in 1992, for which his single 'Catch The Moon' did very well on the Swedish singles charts that year. Let's check out what album #2 is all about.

The Songs
'Sorito Town' is a dinky opener in the style of Peter Mayer. Very lyrical, even with a slight maritine flavour. The title track 'Walk Right On' is different altogether, pushing out a tough Stage Dolls meets Bryan Adams rocker. 'Calling From Heaven' wouldn't be out of place on an Alan Parsons Project album. A sweeping acoustic but ambient piece that soars upward. 'Fat Boy Blues' is more contrast yet again. Like a barbrshop quartet doing a blues number with brushwork for percussion. 'Hell Of A Man' is back to the boisterous rock n roll heard on the title track, and I'll admit I prefer it when Stefan rocks out. The mostly acoustic 'One More Thing' didn't do a lot for me, however the jangly 'Mona-Lisa' was much better, like a Swedish version of Henry Lee Summer. 'I Believe In You' was good too, Stefan's Midwest sound coming to the fore. 'Circus In Town' expands further on that Midwest direction, the closer 'Bad Water' bounces off the shimmer of a summer heatwave, encouraging the desire to drown a bottle of H20 in one go. I like this track, sort of slinky rock in the vein of Jude Cole.

In Summary
Style wise, there's all manner of variety on here, very much a licorice all-sorts type of album. But this is the kind of music which the Swedes and Norwegians can play with one hand tied behind their back and a blindfold over their head! 'Walk Right On' would be Andersson's most successful album, going to #1 on the Swedish album charts. Stefan is still very much in business, though his more recent albums are all sung in his native Swedish language. You can also catch him on Facebook.
