Here's the second effort from Paul Sabu in 2016. It's a co-effort with Phil Vincent, called Cranston. After the disappointing Coda album earlier in the year, I felt trepidation heading into the review of this album, but I needn't have, as 'Cranston' is superb stuff! Cranston sound very different to what I've been fed a diet of for so long. It's crunchy, the rhythm section is in your face, and the vocal work from Vincent is top notch. The songs are really different too, providing contrast but keeping things interesting. When I first slapped it on, I couldn't turn it off, just letting the songs roll from one to the next. So that says something!

The Songs
Cranston is named after a town which is located just south of Providence Rhode Island, which is where Vincent resides. An unusual way to name a band, but hey we've got Boston, Chicago, Houston and Biloxi so what would I know? There are highlights everywhere, from the lead-off 'Long Long Way To Go' with its eye-popping bass work to the immense 'See You On The Other Side'. I'm impressed so far. 'Fallen' settles into a deep groove with a hooky chorus to match. 'Let It Go' might be simplistic from the lyrics side, but sometimes you don't need to be complicated to get your point across, as is the case here. The acoustic 'Sea Of Madness' is followed by the coarse 'Hangin' On', while the closer 'Unwanted' is a big brash affair, that displays some Billy Squier styled rock.

In Summary
The back-catalog of both blokes is extensive, Vincent in particular has been so prolific over the years. But with Cranston, I believe this is a vehicle worth continuing with for Messrs Sabu and Vincent, and putting some focus on. The material here is fantastic. As a GDM reader, it might be good idea to invest some listening time with this album. Better yet, go off and buy the CD. No doubting this could prove to be one of the surprise packets of 2016. I'm hooked on Cranston. Now it's time to hop onto Google Maps and track this place down!
