These guys are a new Norwegian band, who dabble right in the center-mix of AOR. You couldn't style them in any other genre than AOR really, such is their delivery method. MelodicRock Records have picked them up, and this should come as no surprise as Andrew McNeice had also picked up other Norwegian bands for the label previously, such as Fenrik Lane and Faith Circus.

The Songs
At first glance, this might come off as being a bit generic, considering the album title, the glossy fantasy artwork, the song-titles etc. Outlasted manage to turn it into a listenable affair, and I compare it favourably to the recent AOR Heaven release from Wickman Road with a dash of Bad Radiator thrown in too. Outlasted switch between pure AOR moments and a subtle acoustic/electric hybrid sound, and it works well for them. Highlights include the lush 'Live For Today' with parping synths at the ready. The two openers 'Someone Like You' and 'Ghost Of Love' probably typify Outlasted's overall direction. 'Loving You Ain't Easy' and 'Anything For You' are two examples of that acoustic/electric hybrid package . Not quite in the territory you might hear from the songwriting generics of the Nashville scene, but not a million miles away from it either. 'Writing On The Wall' moves in the same direction as Swedes Bad Radiator, so that gets a thumbs-up of approval from me. 'Sacrifice' tries to add a toughened edge to things, but overall, these Norwegians play it far too kind to be considered dangerous.

In Summary
If there was one disturbing fact about this album out there on the Interweb; and that is.. there are more illegal downloads of this album available than there are peer reviews, considering the album was released on July 1st. That truly bothers me. However, 'Into The Night' is pretty good for what it is, though not really offering up anything truly unique. But as most of the readers at GDM are diehard fans of the genre, we'll take it nonetheless.

This pretty much sums up my impression as well. This isn't the most exciting release of the year, but it does sound good, on the more mellow end of AOR, with a more modern sound. I had never before heard 'liar liar, pants on fire' in any serious musical context before, followed with lyrics lifted from Pat Benatar. And 'Writing On The Wall' is practically a mashup of Maroon 5's 'This Love' and Foreigner's 'Too Late'. Good song, though. 'Unbroken' is the type of song I want Daughtry to do again. All these songs come under four minutes, with a few under three, so it's a quick listen at ten songs. I do think the first two songs (the ones released early) are the strongest, but that may change with more than the three spins I've given the whole album so far. This'll work when I'm in the mood for something on the smooth end of the spectrum.
