AOR Heaven released the Featherstone and Wickman Road CD's at the same time just recently. We reviewed Featherstone to a lukewarm reception, unlike Wickman Road, a band which looks well on its way to future acclaim. From Sweden, This is fairly young band who surely must have reincarnated from the 80's, such is their attention to detail. I am pleased to say that WR step up to the plate for us long suffering melody starved fans, and are grateful for the fact that our favourite sub-genre appears to be in good safe and youthful hands, judging by this and the recent Tempt CD.

The Songs
The imagery on the front cover looks like a bunch of lost Aliens standing out in the middle of nowhere. Despite this, these boys play a brand of AOR that is very captivating and not so 'out of this world'. The good thing being is that there is no copycat production as with recent Frontiers releases. 'After The Rain' has its own flavour, a grandiose and glorious affair. Standouts are everywhere. The sweeping ballad 'I Believe In You' will draw you in effortlessly, 'All Alone' is a beaut amalgam of fellow Scandi rockers Free Spirit meeting Sure Conviction at an 80's music revival. It's not all slow mo though, the band know how to turn up the heat when required. This is evident when they combine lush keyboards with surging guitar work on tracks like 'Breaking Free', 'I Can't Wait Anymore', or the up-tempo 'Home'. For me, the highlight would be the rather excellent 'Couldn't Find The Way', classic AOR played as it should be.

In Summary
I'm thinking this is one of the better AOR Heaven releases of 2016, and keeps the Scandi flag flying high. Bringing quality production, interesting and well played songs as well as a different flavour, Wickman Road should prove to be an appealing drawcard for GDM regulars. Recommended.
