Background
If you're a follower of Swedish glam metal, then you can add the name Toxic Rose to your inquiries list. The boyz in 'Rose' aren't brand new arrivals though. They've been around since 2010 and also released an EP back in 2012. They have associations with other Swedish glam acts including Lipstixx N Bulletz, while Tom Wouda was previously in Gemini Five. If you've seen any of the Toxic Rose videos, they sound heavier than a glam band should ever sound, and that gets a high-five from me! After the total disappointment of Reckless Love's 'InVader' album earlier this year, I'm glad that Toxic Rose have stepped up to the plate and ensured that Scandinavia's reputation as a glam metal powerhouse is maintained.

The Songs
Image wise, they conjure up visions of early Motley Crue and W.A.S.P.. Yep, there's plenty of leather and studs to be found with this lot, as can be seen on their opening track 'World Of Confusion' (refer the video below). 'The Silent End Of Me' includes growly vocals, chainsaw guitar work, some keyboard touches and gang chants. All in a days work for these blokes. There's a slight subtle change with 'Killing The Romance', thanks to the acoustics on the pre-solo and solo sections, but apart from that, Toxic Rose deliver huge slabs of metal. Melodic synths introduce 'Sinner', and this one heads downs a goth-metal path, as the synth can still be heard in the back-drop. Some good moments here, the mix on the solo section is very good. 'We Own The Night' opens with a solid bass guitar back-end, underpinned throughout, while the tempo keeps a steady and slower beat. The chorus is a deadringer for Finnish melodic rockers Free Spirit.

More lovely tinkly synths set 'Reckless Society' on its way, but the metronome really ticks over on this one. A glam metal anthem for sure. The guitar riffs on 'Clarity' takes us back to the L.A scene of the late great 80's, the drum-work too is spitfire fast, while the vocals are laced in bourbon. The verses are rather mild when compared to the choruses but don't let that fool ya! 'Because Of You' is the album's change-up moment; a piano ballad that shifts and undulates through various sections. 'We All Fall Down' recreates late night red siren action. Churning guitars, flight-of-fancy solos reminding me of Warrior but without the Judas Priest influences. 'Total Tranquility' at 8 minutes plus is the longest track here. The intro is restrained and intense, but when it gets going, it sounds like many of those European metal bands from the 2000's, a la Tad Morose, Dionysus etc. Pretty good!

In Summary
As eluded to previously, I think 'Total Tranquility' will appeal to L.A styled metal fans from the early 80's, such is its ferocity. Musically, everything is here that a metal fan could expect, or want. Put it this way; you won't die wondering with this band, as they put it all out there for your aural consumption. The mix was undertaken by Saint Deamon drummer Ronnie Milianowicz, and he does a fantastic job. Look at for that name on future metal projects. In the meantime, bang your head, and get your cranium rearranged!
