I was a bit cranky last week, waiting for various things to happen with the website transition. God it's good to be back. Didn't Gary Glitter sing a song like that? dogrun

Background
Well, if you've read the music industry developments during April 2016, you may have read about the ongoing dramas happening among the family members of the late Frank Zappa, and his late wife Carol, who passed away last year. It seems that under the rules of the Zappa family trust, son Dweezil Zappa cannot use the family surname for his own musical recordings, nor the name of his famous father. It's a strange world, you can read about it elsewhere on the net, but let's take a look and listen to this excellent guitarist and interesting musician who has been releasing records since 1986's 'Havin' A Bad Day'. This one, the rather elongated title 'My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama' suggests wackiness, but with a totally professional set of studio musos in tow, this goes well above the usual run of late 80's studio projects.

The Songs
Mostly, this is MTV derived hard rock of the era, you can hear a myriad of influences, while the song-titles and lyrics are slightly 'out there'. Musically, it's not too demanding a listen, possibly a little derivative, but the guitar-work is off the charts on some songs. Dweezil certainly knows how to strangle a six-string. There is a hint of Kane Roberts and maybe Steve Vai in the tone department (quite a wet sounding tone, a la reverb), rather than style. If there is a slight down-side to the record it would the vocals, which didn't really set my candle on fire. For mine, the highlights here include the like 'Your Money or Your Life', the OTT guitar pairing of 'Shameless' and 'Nasty Bizness', the latter featuring an outrageous mid-section guitar solo, while the pairing of 'Before I Get Old' and the closing 'You Don't Know When To Love Me' are possibly the album's best moments, particularly if like LA melodic hard rock a la Ratt, Keel etc.

In Summary
The record is 41 minutes long covering 11 tracks. This was Dweezil's only release for Chrysalis Records. He then went on to record 'Confessions' in 1991, and still continues to record music up to this day, despite the family conflicts as alluded to above.

Having the prolific Beau Hill onboard and enlisting the help of some proven industry musicians boded well for this second album. Notable Tracks: 'Comfort Of Strangers' with it galloping tempo, female background singer and catchy chorus. The opening single worthy melodic hard rocker 'Here Eyes Don't Follow Me'. 'Shameless' is just straight up hard charging. Pop metal is keenly explored on the spirited 'Before I Get Old'.
