Agreed Reyno about Clyde Best, further back is the story of Walter Tull which is quite heartbreaking, links to Northampton and lived in Rushden.

Big loss is Cyrille, only short time at Wolves, but I was at the Peterborough game where he scored the last minute winner, Cyrille and Laurie C, what a team.

I think many people forget guys like West Ham's Clyde Best whenever the subject of the impact of black footballers in the English game crops up. He was just as good as the West Brom trio years b4

Cyrille was part of the ground breaking so called 'three degrees' who did so much to break down racial barriers in Football back in the late 70's.R.I.P

I came across the French band Shannon via the AOR Heaven website, seeing it listed in their new release category. They peaked my interest, though I've found it very difficult to find any info about them. One thing that is not difficult is taking a big liking to Shannon's debut album. There is more than a smattering of high class Euro hard melodic rock with plenty of comparisons, such as China, Roko, Europe, Gotthard, 220 Volt and Pretty Maids. If you've been wondering if melodic rock in the new millennium can still capture the sound and energy of the past, then wonder no more!

The Songs
Shannon take control of the listener from the outset with the pure melodic rock of 'Heartbreaker'. The song has plenty of punchy keyboards, a huge chorus and melodic soloing. Another stellar track is the sublime 'She's A Liar'. A fantastic example of arena melodic rock. There's also a heavier side to Shannon. 'Scared Of War' has a Lion's Share inspired riff, while the speedy 'Reach For The Sky' reminds me of little known German band Ghandi. If you found China's first release a bit of a blast then 'One In A Million' is going to be right up your alley. Same can be said for 'Goin' Crazy' if you are a Terra Nova fan.

In Summary
In regards to the song-writing there is very little to fault, except for a few grammatical errors. Bringing the songs to life are the extremely capable Olivier Del Valle on vocals, outstanding guitarist Patrice Louis (does he actually know the 80's are over?) and keyboardist Thierry Dagnicourt. Shannon offer so much to the melodic rock fan that it is such a shame their exposure has been so limited. One of the few true melodic rock releases I can heartily endorse these days.
