Background
This is the album where we see Mark I (or Mark I and a half) of the Little River Band phasing out. The new line-up would reconvene in 1983, but this LP 'Time Exposure' is a very good LP with loads of good songs onboard. Joining for the first time was American bassist Wayne Nelson, who had previously worked with Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina. He joined the band in April 1980. LRB went to the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat to record the LP with George Martin (The Beatles) as producer.

The Songs
The first four songs should be well known to all LRB fans, the rather excellent 'The Night Owls' with Wayne Nelson on lead vocals did particularly well in the US, reaching #6. 'Man On Your Mind' and 'Take It Easy On Me' are mellow melodic affairs ideally placed for radio, and so it proved. One of the better ballads from LRB's back catalogue was 'Ballerina', which was sung here by Beeb Birtles. 'Love Will Survive' lands right in the middle of AOR territory, with great vocal harmonies, and a pumping bass line. 'Full Circle' kicks off with a huge vocal intro, a regimented drum beat. It has all the hallmarks of Graeham Goble's handiwork. It's only a short piece too. Shorrock delivers quality vocals on the uptempo pairing of 'Suicide Boulevard' and 'Don't Let The Needle Win', both songs aimed at self abuse. For the closer, Birtles lends his vocal to the soaring 'Guiding Light', which as a ballad is very symphonic.

In Summary
After this, Glenn Shorrock would leave for a short-lived solo career, signing with RCA. John Farnham came in as the new vocalist, and what an impact he made! Lead guitarist David Briggs would also depart before the album release in August 1981, his spot picked up by Stephen Housden. LRB released a 'Greatest Hits' package in 1982 (the album with the swimming pool on the cover), this set included the previously unreleased 'The Other Guy' which made #11 on the US charts. LRB would retain their record deal with Capitol, which would eventually lead to a relationship with Capitol offshoot Pasha Records. All LRB records through this era are worth picking up. A great album from an even greater band. The vocal harmonies on 'Night Owls' are some of the best I've ever heard, pure AOR gold.
