This was a very obscure project from 1989 that has come to light recently. It features Mexican musician Rafael Villafane, who goes by the name of Raal. This CD is essentially four songs on one side, with alternative mixes on the other side. The line-up of musicians is a who's who of the L.A session scene. From what I understand, Raal was based in Los Angeles, with the record label Baby O Records And Tapes operating out of Brentwood.

The Songs
Raal's voice is on the rough-edged side. Sort of like Danny Spanos meets Eddie Money with a bit of Sabu in there too. 'Alright OK' gets things off to a great start. It's here that you can Michael Thompson's familiar guitarwork shine through. Fabulous! 'Little Girl' is a racy number too, again Thompso's guitar tone is obvious for all to hear. The cover of Bob Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' is an interesting one, and is kept true to the original.. I like it. The winner for me is 'Losi' You'. The intro is a long organ/keyboard sequence, which then progresses into a huge L.A hard rock anthem. Obviously this is when the army of assembled backing vocalists kick in!

In Summary
I would have loved to heard more music from Rafael Villafane. He's 'raal good!' The original CD goes for big bucks out there on the Net. I saw one this morning going for just under $200! Good luck if you're interested in hunting it down. It maybe short on quantity, but not quality. [word count 251]
