This is a new Italian band Zaneta, recently picked up by Carsten Neilsen's new label Lion's Pride Music (operating out of Denmark). Along with a few other releases (which we'll be covering soon in the ear future), Zaneta have been featured in the Video section of the GDM forum, and sound pretty damn fine to these ears! Of course, the big name player in the band is former EVA keyboardist Stefano (Steff) Brusa. His superb keys playing and songwriting contribute a key part to the overall Zaneta package. Guitarist Fabrizio 'Bicio' Leo also adds some excellent touches. He was a former GIT alumni in Los Angeles.

The Songs
Not since Myland have I been blown away by an Italian band playing in a pure AOR style. Check out the opener 'Maryanne' as an example. GDM readers should feel a stirring in the loins listening to this! AOR-tastic stuff. As expected the guitar and keyboard interplay is stellar. Brusa leads the charge of the ivories brigade on 'Coming Back'. I had come to the conclusion that bands had forgotten how to play this style anymore. There is an official video for 'Feel You Now' (see below), 'Stay' and 'Dream Of Love' changes course as the two true ballads on the CD, while the violin parts on 'All My Life' made this one quite enjoyable. Pumping bass lines, juicy vocal choruses and a sound somewhere between Nelson and Harem Scarem. The set closer 'Tell Me Why' shows this quite classy Italian band in irrestible form, and for one, I'm very impressed!

In Summary
'Zaneta' makes for a great listen, and for me, they sound much on a par with many of the Frontiers roster. Perhaps better in some cases. All the songs are no longer than 5 minutes each, so it makes the CD very digestible. You can hear Zaneta in full over on YouTube. I believe most of the album is available to listen to, and also through the online Amazon Store, though nowhere else at this stage. A very good release from Lion's Pride Music, investigate with full GDM confidence. [355 words]
