Much like some other Swedish bands who have made a comeback this year after being off the grid for five years or so, we welcome back Constancia. The line-up is the same as before, with the exception of new bassist Linus Abrahamson (Andromeda). Rosengren (ex Scudiero and Token), Stark, currently also with Grand Design, and vocalist Fremberg (Andromeda) are the key members here. I really enjoyed that first Constancia record, where the band bought together the best elements of vocals, guitars and keyboards under the watchful eye of Fredrik Folkare in the mixing booth. The band mix up hard rock with progressive elements, not surprising considering the Andromeda influence of Fremberg, one of Sweden's premier prog metal bands. 'Final Curtain' is a continuation of the debut, and gives you a selection of great new music to sink your teeth into.

The Songs
'Don't Tread On My Heart' is a surefire winner of an opener. It's tailor-made for all melodic rockers and appeals from the outset. A grand start! I liked 'Spectres' too, which was very Swedish, a compliment indeed. 'Live A Lie' is a very majestic track and has pompsters appeal, while 'Hang Tough' is a tighter affair with a hard rockin' game-face. Fremberg's vocal makes this one sound close to The Magnificent's material from a few years back. 'Hold On My Heart' veers off into Ten territory, but that's based on the vocal harmonies, which can also be applied equally to 'Lies Within Lies', which is superb. 'In Your Eyes' punches above its weight, so too the title-track 'Final Curtain' containing great harmony vocals all round.

In Summary
All the songs are in that 3 to 4 minute barrier, so you won't get overtaken with any longer progressive parts, which is just as it should be. A pretty good band, there's nothing complicated about their sound or style, and they make a compulsory attendance at GDM without too much fuss.

Not sure if this is a step in the right direction from the band. The debut was a solid effort. This one is different. I gave it one or two plays on Spotify but couldn't find any interest or those elements that made the band differ from others in this genre. They had a mysterious dark feeling in their arrangements and production which now is gone and the songs are rather AOR by numbers.
