OK, so the name and album title may lead one to think that this album and band are some new Death Metal combo, but no, this here platter is the debut album from The Black who describe their music as Motorhead meeting Cheap Trick!! The chief songwriter and guitarist of the band Joel Burns has in the past worked with such luminaries as Roger Joseph Manning Jr, Hirsh Gardner, Jimmy Waldo and Gary Shea, and James Wooley (ex NIN) as well as releasing a slew of albums under various guises and has recently played and written with the Halestorm influenced female fronted rock band Valora which showcases the talents of the delightful looking Syd Duran.

The Songs
The 9 songs on offer here are all taut rockers with roaring guitars and gritty, raw vocals but with a definite underlying sense of melody. Opener 'It's All Gone' has a rip roaring vocal display from George Wright, spitting out the lyrics with a real sense of purpose whilst the guitars and drums sounding big and fat crash along to great effect, a fine start. Next up is 'Time Stealer' with a vocal performance than none other than Hirsh Gardner of New England fame, but this is no melodic/pomp affair what you get is a track that sounds like it could have come off an early KISS album. 'In The Black' has that trademark Motorhead drum sound and gallops along at a right old pace and has a frantic solo for good measure. 'Dead Cat Bounce'.. a great title!, struts and stomps, and for what is a trio they make quite a racket. 'Bonzo's Baby' has a great groove and grind vibe going on, with George sounding like he is having a whale of a time on vocal duties.

'The Enemy Is You' thrashes along in time honoured fashion, whilst 'Pole Position' shifts through the gears admirably. 'Men Can Fly' starts with some blistering 'Fast' Eddie Clarke style guitar work and then powers on through at breakneck speed. Closer 'Is It All Over?' slows it down a tad, but ends proceedings in fine style. The production and performance values on show are top notch and it actually sounds like the guys had a real ball recording this album. The band have recorded two other songs which were at one point up for inclusion on the album and they are covers of Queen's 'Get Down Make Love' and KISS' 'Parasite' but are being saved for a further project, both are superb versions of songs that should be very familiar to everyone here at Glorydaze. The cover of 'Get Down, Make Love' can be heard over at

In Summary
The album is due out early September and will initially be a digital release only through the usual channels, there are plans for a limited run of physical CD's but at the time of writing the availability of these is unknown, this is a hard and heavy (but fun) album that rips through the songs with a real sense of vitality and enthusiasm. Why not go on over to their ReverbNation site to catch a selection of tracks from the album. Well worth a listen.
