Background
Here's a cool Belgian band who skirted the new wave and power pop sub-genres during the late 70's and early 80's. From Antwerp, they were formed in 1979 and were originally called Scooter On The Road. Their music has a few keyboard skirmishes, is quite melodic, and is as racey as their band-name indicates.

The Songs
The debut album 'One By One' was produced by the band's drummer Herwig Duchateau. The album featured three singles. The most successful was the album opener 'You', which is by far the best song onboard. It's a melodic new-wave ditty which went to the top of the charts in their native Belgium. Other worthwhile songs include the rather funky 'Tattoo Turkey', and the song which gets them closest to AOR territory: 'Don't Look Back'. Scooter do a cover of the Beatles 'Eight Days A Week', while the album is book-ended by one of their other singles 'Peppermint Girl'.

In Summary
Scooter continued on for two other albums on Ariola: 1982's 'Charm' and 1983's EP 'Oblivion' before calling it a day.

Love the audience.. as if they were sitting around having dinner and a few drinks, and looking non-plussed. There's even a shot of a bloke lighting up a cigarette!

Did some further digging and it appears Scooter did some Euro dates with Japan in 1981.

I bought this in a local record shop years ago and it was that colorful cover that initially caught my attention. Upon flipping over the cover, it's was obvious that power pop rock would be the order of the day with the skinny ties and early 80s pressing. An impressive debut with sharp catchy singles and consistent non-single tracks.
