Background
It's got one of the coolest and cheekiest album covers of 2015! Literally. The Timotei Twins have still got it, and Frontiers obviously think so too, by releasing 'Peace Out' to the world. You won't get too much difference with what you heard back in 2010, when the boys released their last set of CD's.. all three of them more or less at the same time! It's always good when reviewing an album like this, because I am forced to go back and listen to their back-catalogue and make notes. They have a sound tailor-made for AOR, and 'Peace Out' is no different. Honestly, you could play this in the car heading down the freeway with top opened out and the sun shining down. Yes, it's that sort of album, and considering Australia's weather is heating up, this is a great contender for the truck! Most of us will remember 1990's wonderful 'After The Rain', and if push comes to shove, 'Peace Out' feels like a Part II extension from that debut.

The Songs
Most of this album is totally listenable. One of the few on the Frontiers label that is. The harmony vocals are out of this world, only one other pairing comes to mind, the durable pairing of Richard Page and Steve George from Mr Mister. The songs do take little detours here and there, and aren't re-runs of each other. For instance, the caustic guitar-work on 'Rockstar' adds grit where required, while the opening 'Hello Everybody' is the song which sets the dial and scene for the rest of the album; a breezy fun-time rocker. 'Invincible' is played with a riff I'm sure I've heard before. Boston perhaps? The two slo-mo tunes are 'On The Bright Side' and the last track 'Leave The Light On For Me', which is not a cover of the Belinda Carlisle hit. Elsewhere, you see the duo dip into hard rock as per the very tempting 'Back In The Day', the guitar chugging pairing of 'Autograph' and 'You And Me'.

In Summary
I read somewhere that this is the last time that Matt and Gunnar will record under the 'Nelson' banner. That might be the situation now, but the duo have a legacy, and if anyone pulls out enough cash in ten or fifteen years time, then you can expect a reunion.. that much is sure. That's the way the cynical music industry operates. Apparently the lads are heading in a country-crossover direction, and you can expect Nashville will welcome them with open arms. Open bank accounts I'm not so sure. In the meantime, soak up the twin's music under the Nelson handle while you can.

It would be hard for Nelson to top their epic 1990 'After The Rain' album, but they have churned out some good stuff since. I don't think this one is, for me, as enjoyable overall as their 2010 'Lightning Strikes Twice' album. This has a less-polished sound. And it probably is the kind of sound that is best for them, even if they will be abandoning it. But there are some songs that will go into my random-play playlist.

And you're right, George - 'Invincible' has a guitar sound very much like Boston's 'Peace Of Mind'. First thing I noticed about that song.
