Many of you will have read my review of the Care Of Night EP a few years back. Loved it, and it even got into my top picks of 2013, even as a demo EP? Holy bejeezuz. How is that possible? Well, if you heard the quality of some of those songs, then the resulting opinion was pretty easy to justify. It was enough for AOR Heaven to sign CoN to a deal, and for me to go back and listen to bands like Platitude and Seven Tears (past CoN membership) to appreciate what the 2015 version of Care Of Night are all about. I'll admit it; I've been a huge fan of Wacken's keyboard work throughout the years and nothing changes here. Combined with Calle Sch”nberg's vocal and some searing guitar work from Jonathan Carlemar, AOR never sounded so good in 2015!

The Songs
Perhaps I might be biased, but when it comes to a record like this, then I am perhaps best qualified to write about it. Four of the songs from the 2013 EP are on here, while the interesting angle for me is to listen to the remaining six new songs. I came away blown off the planet. But then again you probably knew that! 'Cassandra', 'Say A Prayer', 'Unify' and 'Give Me Strength' need no introduction to those of you familiar with the 2013 EP. All of them just as magnificent now as they were back then. The first of the newies is the rather racy 'Hearts Belong', and it scratches the itch of a two year stand-down period since the release of the EP. Big guitars, big keys all make for a compelling package. 'Those Words' is just supremely good AOR, great musicianship with hooks and a chorus that captivates. You can't ask for more than that surely? 'Dividing Lines' comes at us with some piano dramatics; a power ballad that leaves you on tenterhooks. The chorus is particularly hooky, even with the saxophone solo.. and many of you know what I think of sax solos on a melodic rock record!!! I'm in love with the drama ridden 'Contact', which goes up a level with a pitch-shift change toward the end. Nice one. 'Please Remember' is a straight forward rock n roller, it's probably the song that stands out less for me, while 'Say You Will' is a mostly acoustic piece which offers up a different side of the band.

In Summary
2015 gets off to a cracking start with Care Of Night and the soon to be reviewed Revolution Saints and the promising new Toto albums leading the way. Here's hoping that the rest of the year delivers more goodies like these to feed our relentless appetites. in the meantime, add this CD to your collection with a certified recommendation from GDM Towers!

The much awaited debut album from the Swedish AOR'sters that delivers in spades. If your musical tastes require top quality songs, tight harmonies and luscious keys, then this is the one for you. One of THE top AOR discs of the year.
