Yep in Argent, especially as Rod Argent and Jim we’re cousins.

21-01-2018 07:43
Didn't Rodford also play in Argent and Charlie too?

Jim Rodford, bass player, The Kinks, Phoenix (I think?), but I remember him with The Zombies, saw live a while back. RIP

On the surface reviewing a Paul Dianno live album is less than essential. In fact it's totally unnecessary. But with an album this bad I couldn't help but put fingers to keyboard to highlight what has to be one of the biggest jokes I've heard in years. It's no secret that Dianno's led a more than chequered career over the last three decades, with more than his fair share of mishaps, both musically and personally. Despite some decent albums over the years his reliance on rehashing the early Iron Maiden albums he was a part of has turned him into a bloated caricature of what he was in his prime. So here we have Paul performing live in Krakow, Poland in April of this year at some festival with a bunch of hired guns adeptly playing note for note all the early Maiden classics. Then there's Dianno himself - words can barely describe the farce contained within this miraculously released piece of rubbish.

The Songs
I defy anyone listening to this to make sense of Dianno's singing. He knocks out all the tired Iron Maiden classics of course.. 'Running Free' 'Phantom Of The Opera' 'Prowler', 'Killers', 'Charlotte the Harlot'.. you get the picture. A yawn if there ever was one. As mentioned the band play them well, but when you listen to Dianno's attempts to 'sing' them you'll be stunned into disbelief. It's not singing, some type of new language, garbled and unintelligible, as if he's finally lost all semblance of reality and forgotten all the words and lapsed in insanity. I can barely describe it accurately such is the diabolical nature of his vocal work. I assume he was wasted because nothing can explain what's going on here. I cannot fathom how this was committed to disc and sold as not only a CD but a DVD also. Clearly the man has no shame. If this was just an instrumental album it would be far more listenable, the faceless backing band sounding more like Iron Maiden than the band themselves. But Dianno's display is so embarrassing and inept that you can't help but listen to immerse yourself in this freak show. It's the kind of display you see from Vince Neil live, only he is nowhere this incompetent. Everyone really owes it to themselves to watch some of the live footage from this gig to marvel in all its glory. Is he singing in Polish? Somehow I doubt it. All I know is I couldn't stop laughing. For anyone who cares there are only two songs which aren't Maiden tracks, those being 'Children Of Madness' and a crap cover of 'Blitzkrieg Bop'.

In Summary
Everything about this is a joke, right from the album cover which a ten year old could have made on Photoshop. For Dianno to still be plundering these songs for profit 34 years later is testament to his total absurdity. Don't get me wrong, he's made some quality AOR and metal in his time, but this is his total nadir, if that's possible. If you're in search of a good laugh and absolute comedy then this is essential listening. In that regard it's a ten. In real life I think you know what this really rates.

I posted a link to one of his live performances on here a while back. Never in my life have I witnessed such a shit performance from a wannabe.

I decided to preview all the tracks on iTunes; about halfway through, my wife rushed out of the bedroom in a panic to where I'm currently sitting; thinking I was having a massive heart attack; that's how hard I was laughing! If any of you have seen the video on YouTube of the guy known as the world's worst Metal singer doing Maiden's Ace's High will immediately think it's the same guy! Is it possible to give a rating of less than Zero Stars?!?!?!

Has anyone else ever read Dianno's autobiography 'The Beast'? Having just finished it I can honestly say it's one of the most ludicrous books of all time. I couldn't stop laughing. It is 300 pages of Paul beating people up, screwing groupies, smashing his various wives faces in and taking endless amounts of cocaine. I can't do it justice here. The mans penchant for excess and absurdity seemingly knows no bounds, as witnessed by the above debacle which I reviewed. He's definitely a first rate comedian in any sense.

Yeah, i'm wondering if that is Polish he's spewing out? I couldn't make out a word? He looks terrible too. A long way from 'Killers'- yikes!
