Background
This is the band from Newcastle Australia which we reviewed a few years back in 2010. The band were also participants on the TV show 'Australia's Got Talent' during 2011, making it as far as the semi-finals. If I remember rightly, they broke up at one point, their website disappeared off the map, and they were consigned to the litany of great Australian rock bands put out to pasture. Not to be it would seem, the band having returned once again, though getting everyone together from across the greater Sydney region plus northern Central Coast would be a challenge for most bands (ask De Mont!), but not Hansel! Their latest platter is a short sharp snappy 5-track EP, combining their well known glam elements with a starchy brand of hard rock.

The Songs
'Hansel Says It's Time To Rock' is a short 2 and half minute anthem for the kids of today. You can expect this one to be played live with gusto! In fact, the whole EP is a series of anthems played from one track to the next. 'Fluorescent Blue Lights' continues the fun approach to it all, big choruses and excess energy. 'Running On Adrenaline' complete with gang-chants gives Hansel a dangerous edge.. 'you better watch your step.. you're on the wrong side of the law' Easily one of my faves is the commercial sounding 'Stop'. It even has a backdrop of melodic rock approved keyboards sitting in the backseat. Australia's answer to Reckless Love? Hmm.. maybe. Last track 'Sweet Desperation' is the change-up moment, walking down the acoustic road with a bluesy twang. Guns N Roses with a dose of Tesla perhaps. Quite good actually, especially when they pick up the tempo at the halfway mark.

In Summary
Hansel released the EP during February 2014, and can be seen playing up and down the east coast of New South Wales. If you're in their location, get along and see them!
