Swedish chanteuse Angelica Rylin will be familiar to followers of Italian label Frontiers Records. Her band Murder Of My Sweet released their debut CD back in 2011. For her debut solo album 'Thrive', there's a change in style. It's radio friendly AOR with more than a similarity to Norwegian lass Issa Oversveen. There's a heap of songs on this disc, plus there's a common introductory passage of glossy synths and a dramatic entrance to each song. This approach gets a bit repetitive at times but the good news is that all the songs are pretty reasonable in quality.

The Songs
From gorgeous ballads such as 'Can't Stop Love' and the ethereal 'Losers In Paradise', to the ready made highlights reel of songs such as 'Breaking My Heart', 'I Am Strong' and 'Rain On My Parade'. There's barely a weak spot on 'Thrive', which means that the songwriting is top-notch. And with blokes such as Harry Hess, Robert Sall, Alessandro Del Vecchio, Mattius Reimer and Daniel Flores contributing a lot of the material, the listener is going to get maximum value out of this album.

In Summary
Not only is she lovely to look at, but the girl can sing as well. I enjoyed 'Thrive', and despite it being in the middle of the road without too much in the way of edginess, this is an album that can quite easily sit in the CD player on repeat-play. Buy it!

I'm a bit of a sucker for female fronted AOR and this album is excellent. I take on board George the lack of edginess but sometimes I just want to listen to well crafted, slick AOR and this fits the bill perfectly. This came through late on as one of my favourite albums of last year.

This one hits a major sweet spot for me. Angelica has the perfect voice for this material. I'm not familiar with her work with Murder Of My Sweet - I'll need to check them out. The obvious comparison here is with Issa. But Angelica has a voice that really matches this style, whereas Issa's voice is on the thinner side. I must hear a little more edginess than others, as this has just the right amount. Production is excellent too. I'm just now discovering this, but this may very well displace one of the very solid albums in my 2013 top ten.
