10:01 were an Indianapolis band from the 80's. I think it would be fair to say that they should be on the roster of a label like Eonian Records, as mid-west hair metal/rock is their stock in trade. Whether or not 10:01 had enough tracks to go around could've been a stumbling block, as they only recorded four on their 1987 EP 'Ten-O-One'. Actually, I've since discovered that 10:01 had a bunch of other tracks in the can, but I'll cover that off later in this article. These boys are right at home serving up a melodic rock treat. Their ReverbNation site suggests the typical trio of REO Speedwagon, Boston and Journey as references. I'd say they were more inspirational than anything else, with other lesser known acts (lesser known to the occasional visitor here, not the regular trainspotters) such as Redstone, Boulevard (vocally at least) and Riddler providing further reference points.

The Songs
There's a YouTube clip for 'Someone New', so kudos to the person who felt inspired to undertake that duty. Keyboards are everywhere and Todd Shafer has a voice that suits this genre. Take a listen (below). 'It's Too Late' comes from the Champion and Synch school of AOR. Which means there's a emphasis on a tougher guitar sound with keys providing counter-melodies as well as the lead solo spot, courtesy of Troye Kinnett. 'Memory' is the heart-bleeding ballad, and if Boulevard's David Forbes was in recording booth, he could've knocked this up while Todd was having a tea break! 'Lost In A Game' is a lighter style of AOR, with Boulevard (again) mixed with Beau Coup for good measure. A great song, though the production was a bit clunky.

In Summary
That's it. Four tracks only for the 1987 EP. But wait! There's more. Back in 2010, bassist and producer Jeff Ellison bought a number of other 10:01 tracks off the dusty shelves of time. These included: 'Memory', 'Look Around', 'Under Pressure', A Fool To Doubt You (So Lost Without You)', 'Spirits', 'Getaway' and an earlier 1983 version of 'It's Too Late'. These days, Shafer has his own band, while keyboardist Kinnett occupies the ivories slot for fellow Hoosier John Cougar Mellencamp.
