There is a three-part article coming up for E.L.O (Eldorado, A New World Record and Out Of The Blue). Look out for it soon.

Agreed Reyno about Clyde Best, further back is the story of Walter Tull which is quite heartbreaking, links to Northampton and lived in Rushden.

Big loss is Cyrille, only short time at Wolves, but I was at the Peterborough game where he scored the last minute winner, Cyrille and Laurie C, what a team.

I think many people forget guys like West Ham's Clyde Best whenever the subject of the impact of black footballers in the English game crops up. He was just as good as the West Brom trio years b4

Cyrille was part of the ground breaking so called 'three degrees' who did so much to break down racial barriers in Football back in the late 70's.R.I.P

RATING:

Background
A recent addition to some of the Blog sites out there is this independent release by this American singer going by the name of Bambi. It is her real name folks.. Bambi Graves, and along with husband Bryan Graves, this has the same sort of self-released marketing that we saw from last years Dallas project.. in other words, not much, relying on a mini viral campaign to get Bambi's name out there in lights. Great for those who have no PR and presence I guess. So apart from the 'hot chick on front cover', what does 'Complicated' have to offer? Well if you like your female vocals in the style of Lee Aaron and Lorraine Lewis (Femme Fatale) with a hint of Alexa but without the power, then it might be worth taking a listen.

The Songs
'Complicated' is essentially Bambi singing and hubby Bryan doing everything else. She has a tough sounding vocal which adds grit and sand, which you'll hear on the opening title track. Quite why she hooked into the laboured ballad 'Slow Life' so early as track 2 remains a mystery. The purpose of the pivotal second track is to build listener momentum. This was nothing more than a hand brake. Thankfully, things are restored on track 3 'The Game' which contains a good guitar riff, 'Can't Live' is a solid rocker but there was something missing on this one I feel. 'Out Of The Blue' was a funky number but the guitar needed to be more upfront, more so than the bass. I liked the vibe for the dark 'Black Widow', seguing into the faster-paced 'Pain'; a good combo. Perhaps the most AOR friendly tune here was 'Another Kind Of Love', indicating that there is some promise for the future.

In Summary
To be honest, I wasn't totally hooked on this album, the arrangements kinda lacking in many respects, while the sound suffered somewhat. The guitars needed to be more prominent, with more zing and razor-sharp presence. However, some good ideas, and given a decent production next time around, Bambi might make it to second base.
