Fifth On The Floor hail from Lexington, Kentucky. 'Dark And Bloody Ground' is their sophomore release. The debut, 'Color of Whiskey' is long out of print. They started out in 2007 and after various line up changes they settled on a lineup, comprising of Chris Collins (drums), Matt Rodgers (lead guitar, vocals), Robin Polly (bass) and Justin Wells (vocals and rhythm guitar). Since the release of 'Dark And Bloody Ground', the band have gone through more changes and out have gone Robin and Chris and replaced with Aaron Graham (drums) and Jason Parsons (bass).

The Songs
This CD is full of drinking songs, not your American Dog type of song, but pure southern whiskey drunk out of a glass jar. Kicking of is 'Hell If I Know' sounding like an old Georgia Satellites song. Next up you get 'Shine' which has a very early Steve Earle feel to it. You can't help but notice how tight this band is, and how Justin's vocals changed pitch midway through songs. 'On My Way' follows with some interesting mandolin from Matt Rodgers. The rocker, 'Missing The Morning' is next, with some good guitar work from Messr's Rodgers and Wells. 'On My Way' is straight out of the Charlie Daniels Band. 'Front Door Blues' is just pure Allman Brothers with additional harmonica from Art Chaney. 'Distant Memory Lane' is the icing on the cupcake. This acoustic ballad is a masterpiece of sheer genius that keeps the listener enthralled long after the song has finished. 'Georgia' up next again there is a heavy Georgia Satellites influence here. Closing this masterpiece of a disc is 'Drinking Friends' a fun time, bar room honky tonk working mans drinking song.

In Summary
The production and mix on 'Dark And Bloody Ground', is clear, crisp and sharp as a swiss army knife. When played at an extremely high volume my floors shook, and window rattled, with the sounds of Fifth On The Floor's 'Dark And Bloody Ground'. This is Outlaw country with a rock and roll beat and a hint of the Georgia Satellites. This is one motherfucker of a CD. They have recently released their third CD 'Ashes And Angels', produced by Shooter Jennings, Waylon Jennings son. I have already ordered it, and I look forward in enjoying and sharing it with Glory Daze, as much as I have with 'Dark And Bloody Ground'.
