Yep in Argent, especially as Rod Argent and Jim we’re cousins.

Didn't Rodford also play in Argent and Charlie too?

Jim Rodford, bass player, The Kinks, Phoenix (I think?), but I remember him with The Zombies, saw live a while back. RIP

German band Cannon probably wished 1988 was Groundhog Year, because everything they did beyond that point didn't turn out that well for them. The Hannover based band were best described as the German version of Ratt. Not that the melodic hard rock scene needed imitators just as the original L.A band was slowly going out of style. Still, Cannon's 'Thunder And Lightning' caused a bit of a Euro stir through all the metal rag's (mag's) of the day, but it didn't translate into anything substantial, by the following year the band were out of a deal. Were they good enough to compete with the likes of The Scorpions, Bonfire, Running Wild and Accept? Probably not, but that's in hindsight.. With all the years out of the spotlight, Cannon didn't really start firing up again until the noughties, 2005 and beyond being a busy period for the band. Now with 'Burning Love' released in 2012, the style is a long way removed from what was on 'Thunder And Lightning'. The streamlined commercial sounding hard rock removed for something akin to recent Euro heavy metal, good examples being the new sounding Accept and Rage.

The Songs
It's all metronomic drums and big hairy gang-chants straight out of Viking School 101.. you get the picture. Singer Mat Rein Jaehnke does his best U.D.O vocalisations, and in the overall scheme of things, the music presented here is your typical Euro Metal offering, though at 14 tracks, there's probably a few tracks too many. Musically, Cannon are as tight as they ever were, it's just the change of climate doesn't do a lot for this listener unfortunately. I preferred the tracks which displayed a bit of contrast, such as the bagpipe rife opening 'Guadrian Pipes' seguing into 'Guardian Of The Night', the acoustically inclined 'Goodbye' or the straight-ahead hard rock of 'One World'. The rest was a metallized blur that only fans of Accept and U.D.O could only appreciate.

In Summary
I'll have to say that 'Burning Love' wasn't really my cup of tea, I found Jaehnke's voice a hard ask to be honest. The arrangements were all too samey for my liking, variation and contrast always helps I reckon. Sorry chaps, maybe next time.
