Background
Well, you've seen the promo video on this site for a few weeks now. The strangely titled Swedish outfit Sencelled who have perfected a highly infectious brand of AOR meets power pop. A dual combination guaranteed to get many of the GD readership excited. There are a bunch of You Tube videos of this band tracking their material back a few years. They've been pitched in the same baseball park as their countrymen Houston, which is a fair call I reckon, and both can be seen as future contenders for Swedish AOR/pop greatness, though Sencelled might have to change their name to something that won't cause question marks or cause blank stares from the front row of the audience. Sencelled's music is all in the name of fun, and the ten tracks onboard surely do that, and goes some way to putting a smile on your face. Be warned, you might get silly looks particularly if you are travelling on public transport nodding your head away underneath an iPod. So what can I tell you about this lot? Well, they reside just north of Stockholm, and they've been around for a few years at least.

The Songs
Produced by Ricky Delin, he has packaged Sencelled in a refreshing bright and breezy production, without sucking you down in the mix. 'Breathe Out' is the band's first single and what a beauty it is. The vocal harmonies are top notch. My vote for fave track would be 'I Love The Way You Are', a power-pop treat for those of you who have long forgotten what this sub-genre truly sounds like, especially in the 21st century. 'Wild One' captures a sound last heard during the hey-day of the nu-breed movement which permeated the airwaves albeit briefly between 1996 and 2002. Check out glorious harmonies of 'Miracle', the foot-tapping beat an added bonus. This is one for the open road. Wind the top down. After four sensational songs to announce themselves, Sencelled try their hand at a ballad.. 'Oh Sarah' is the result. Lead singer Erk Holmberg has a super voice well suited to these songs. 'One Night Stand' retains Sencelled's preference for bouncy melodic pop with crisp guitar lines and intricate keyboard parts. 'I Wanted You' crashes the occasion with its party-like vibe and stamping drums, I can just envisage this being played at a pool party with a bevy of hot ladies and beer laden fridges. 'Tommy And Gina' might sound like two protagonists out of a well known Bon Jovi song, and the down-on-my-luck lyrics are kinda hard-case, but worth a listen regardless. The Sencelled boys move into a slightly manic mode of pop/rock with 'Things I Feel', like Green Day taking an overdose of sugar. Closing shop on this rather entertaining set is 'Carry On', another funtime romp, though at a touch over 5 minutes, it's not a short romp!

In Summary
Well what can I say? So many good releases over the last few weeks, this one right there in the thick of the mix. A great combination of AOR, power pop and modern rock all rolled into one. The band themselves had included reference points such as Rick Springfield and Green Day, and they wouldn't be too far from the mark. Not long after the release of this album (Sept 23, 2011), Sencelled headed to the UK along with a bunch of other Scandi bands Electric Boys, Miss Behaviour, Tainted Nation and Dynazty. Though they might be new boys on the block, this is a worthwhile opportunity to catch Sencelled in the flesh. Check out this link to find out where they are playing.

Not bad, but when I heard this disc first it reminded me of 7th Heaven.
