Clearly fate put British Columbia residents Geoff Gibbons and Ken Kirschner together while the two were involved with parallel musical endeavors while in Australia. It's a big country and details are sketchy, but a friendship was struck while writing jingles for a Surfers Paradise (Queensland) radio station with a move back to Vancouver solidifying their musical vision. This private press EP was the first of two Silverlode recordings and includes guitarist Doug Edwards who would eventually find his way into Bryan Adams band.

The Songs
Soft rock with a capital 'S' is Silverlode's forte with nods to America, Brownsmith and LeBlanc & Carr. Tasteful and slightly jazzy guitar blend seamlessly with Gibbons and Kirschner's soaring harmonies making for a breezy listen on 'Summer Lady, Summer Love' and especially on the record's single 'Sky High' which received airplay locally in Vancouver and parts of Australia. On the flip the good feelings continue with 'Your Goodbyes' and is a sweet little number similar to the stuff Kenny Loggins put out on his first solo 'Celebrate Me Home'. Nice, and finally 'Don't Start It All Again' turns up as my personal favourite of the four cuts which is a little more up-tempo and the use of Fender Rhodes here and throughout the EP gives the project a warm and summery late night buzz that is very appealing.

In Summary
1982 saw the release of Silverlode's self-titled LP on the Raintown label and featured some interesting guest artist's including Chilliwack's Bill Henderson and Shari Ulrich among others. A Silverlode 'best of' was put out in 2001 by Canada's Bullseye label with a brace of unreleased material and now out of print, is worth keeping an eye out for.
