Background
This Swedish band have been regularly featured at GLORY-DAZE since their first album (review links below). We've kinda forgotten about them in more recent times, probably because there's been a ton of other albums that have kept us pre-occupied. We put AD back into the spotlight again with their latest 2010 release 'Requiem Of Time'. It's their fifth release, and if you've heard their previous stuff, then there are no surprises here yet again. Singer Nils Patrik Johansson is the focus once again, and with their intoxicating blend of metal which draws influences particularly from Dio and Black Sabbath, this band know how to turn on the screws when getting down and heavy.

The Songs
Fourteen tracks all up, at just on an hours playing time. Astral Doors don't deviate too much in style, it's full on combustion from start to finish, no ballads, and only about three slower tracks; with 'Power And The Glory' and 'Blood River' veering close to Dio territory, plus the closer 'When Darkness Comes' which also smacks of Dio and Black Sabbath.

In Summary
Astral Doors is a band I've enjoyed in the past, the new one is classy but very derivative, and with not much in the way of variation, 'Requiem Of Time' could be pushed to the back of the class by the time we finish up the year 2010.
