Background
The latest 2009 album from Texan rockers Point Blank would have to go down as the contender for flying lowest on the 2009 hard rock radar. 'Fight On!' is the new album. This is a momentous occasion for all of us devoted to Southern Rock, yet there has been fuck all written about this great band about their reunion and new album, and their return to the pedestal that is theirs for the taking. Despite what you saw with the success of ZZ Top, it was this band that got crowds rocking in bars from El Paso to Jackonsville, Tampa Bay up through the Carolinas and beyond. I'm sure Rusty Burns has a tall tale to tell in all the escapades that Point Blank experienced, and you have to wonder what the reason is for the double barrel shotgun through most of their branding over the years.. 'Fight On!' is in fact, the bands first new release since 1982's 'On A Roll', and though a mighty fine album that was, it probably wasn't representative of what Point Blank were truly all about. Let's get it out into the open. Point Blank were a superb southern rock band, not an AOR band. All their albums are worthy of your collection, and now in 2009, you get the opportunity to add 'Fight On!' to that collection!

The Songs
Though this might be the boys first album in aeons, it's not as if the band has been (excuse the pun) 'rusty'. No way, these guys have been playing all over the southern circuit for a little while, there was no knee jerk decision to rejoin the classic rock scene. Oh no. You can tell the attitude on 'Fight On!' is dead on and serious, and it's if the band haven't missed a beat since the halycon days, even though we know (and they know), that it's been twenty plus years since the big payola! John O'Daniel is still wheeling and dealing on vocals, and there's no doubt this band can get the crowds rocking in the aisles, or in the bars, based on this collection of tracks! 'Fight On!' has been released on the band's own Dixiefrog Records label, and the band deliver eleven tracks ranging from Texan blues a la Stevie Ray Vaughn on the fiery 'Hit The Bottom', through to the piano laced ballad 'My Soul Cries Out', with its attendant soaring guitar solo, the Santana like 'Cold Day In Hell', or the big foot southern rock of 'Fight On!'. It's only a taster of what's onboard 'Fight On!

In Summary
I'll admit it. If I was ever gonna emigrate to the USA, it would be to Texas. The main reason being, I could hang out and listen to all my favourite bands from yesteryear in hangouts such as Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Fort Worth/Dallas and points in between. I can't help thinking about my favourite Texan band Blackhorse, and if I was ever to see them on the same bill as Point Blank, Winterkat etc, I would die and happily slip off to heaven a contented man.. Yeah right.. slap out of it G! WTF! Anyway, you won't find 'Fight On!' at your regular Internet Wholesale hangout, hop on over to the Point Blank website, and see what sorta discount they can do for you! If you really want to haggle, have a chat to Rusty Burns here at the GDAZE site.. Send him a PM at: Rusty Burns. In the meantime, get back to the good old days of southern rock, Point Blank are back! Yee Hah!

Sounds like a good one. Maybe when I get back to Texas I'll try hunting the lads down. Austin is only an hour away!
