West Virginia is hardly the epicenter of AOR activity, and though famous for being mentioned in John Denver songs and old Waltons re-runs on TV, it hardly has anything to show for it. The only claim to fame would be that Billy (B.E) Taylor was born in the state, though most of his career took place elsewhere. However, there is one rare outfit that does WV proud - and they are Steal The Dark. From Morgantown, on the border on WV and Pennsylvania, this quartet released a 6 track mini LP in 1983, and it's a little gem, with traces of early Little River Band, Dakota, and B>J Thomas.

The Songs
'If It Looks Like I'm Blue To You (Thats How I Am)' starts us off, and could be deadringer for anything found on those early Little River Band albums. The singer (not sure who) delivers with crystal clear clarity. 'One Of A Kind' manages to fuse Dakota like AOR with Night Ranger - probably due to the vocals sounding a lot like Jack Blades. 'Lightning Struck Twice' is a quirky little number, with a nod in the direction of Georgia based southern rock (think Allmans, Van Zants) wrapped up in a late 70's tortilla of radio rock/pop. 'Someone's Gonna Take Your Heart' is a funtime rocker, which sounds a lot like B.J Thomas, uncanningly so. 'Givin' Up On You' is typical of the early 80's pop/rock scene, jangly guitars and some shimmering vocals. It borders on power pop, but the OTT synth solo keeps things very in the pomp kingdom. 'Dance With Me', the closing track is a piano laced ballad that's kinda boring to be honest, and trudges through to the end with its wistful delivery, complete with old style organ.

In Summary
This is the only release from these guys it would seem. You can occasionally find this on Ebay if you look hard enough.
