Background
Here's an Australian band that hovered around in the late 80's and early 90's. If you're a fan of Def Leppard, then try and track down a copy of BB Steal's 'On The Edge'. BB Steal's origins go way back to the early 80's as the Sydney based band Boss. The Lep connection is a long-standing one, as Boss supported the Lep's on their 1983 tour to Australia. And though Boss were a good straight-ahead hard rock band, they had no Lep pretensions that far back, this seemingly coming about in later years. Also reinforcing the Lep connection is the producer of this album, a certain Phil Collen, who does a better job at replicating the Lep sound than what Mutt Lange does!

The Songs
The title track opens up with a southern rock introduction, but soon makes way for some commercial hard rock in the vein of Tesla and Cinderella, with that familiar Leppard like stacked vocal chorus. 'Big Love' is surely Lep's 'Animal' reworked? lol! 'Ride On' pulses along nicely, as does 'Suffer In Silence', the latter is so doppelganger Leppard it's scary! There are a load of gang chants on the boisterous 'Live It Up', while 'Shot Full Of Love' could very well be a 'Hysteria' outtake. 'Precious Love' sounds very professional and classy. 'Heartbeat Away' was originally released in 1989 on a 3 track EP, and comes over like a cross between Krokus and Noiseworks. Nice track. 'Troubled Child' has a jangly upbeat feel, and is well produced, the guitar melodies holding it together all the way through.

In Summary
Craig Csongrady did resurrect the BB Steal name in 2006, and even released a new CD called (funnily enough) 'Resurrection', though by all accounts the music was nothing like 'On The Edge'. This is the sort of album you should try and find cheap on Ebay, though that is turning out to be harder than imagined, as my recent searches indicate that this CD commands some hefty prices. If however, you do source a cheap copy, it would indeed be a steal!

Have a CD version of this one that was sitting around. Just broke it out and was impressed with the Def Leppard linkages. 'Big Love' and 'Precious Love' are two standouts.
